English 2010

For research in this class, we were asked to compile a list of six possible topics to explore. They are as follows:

1. The City of Dubai: If I did this, I would profile The City of Dubai's recent extreme growth, evaluate their King's motives, and argue whether or not his ends justify his means.

2. Music in the Middle East: If I did this, I would write a profile on Middle Eastern music as a whole (history, instruments, etc), report on how their music has influenced our own music both historically and recently, and argue whether or not the joining of the differing music styles is a good thing.

3. Food in the Middle East: If I did this topic, I would write a memoir on a specific food or restaurant in or from the Middle East, evaluate theirs compared to ours, and propose that we promote more Middle Eastern restaurants in our country.

4. Architecture: If I chose this topic, I would profile a specific Mosque or other building, report on differing building styles and techniques, and propose that we apply more of their styles to our own buildings if they are good enough.

5. Religious texts: If I did this, I would write a memoir on general religious texts in the United States, evaluate theirs compared to ours, and argue that, from a secular point of view, theirs are just as legitimate as ours.

6. Governmental bodies: If I did this, I would write a memoir on our own systems of government (starting at the local level), report on their system of government, and argue that the differences originate from the difference in culture.
